Living as it does in a wide variety of habitats, the Yellow Fox displays a wide variety of behaviours.
During the breeding season the female Yellow Fox looks for a suitable mate by attracting attention or showing off her grizzled upper parts, strong neck and black-tipped tail.
The Yellow Fox is a solitary hunter and will readily catch anything that appeals to her appetite. Females are extremely good in sneaking up on their prey since they hide in the leaves.
The Yellow Fox is also very territorial and will attack any trespassers, including other yellow foxes. The females are more likely to battle over territory and food.
The Yellow Fox is not intimidated by humans, although at first may show aggression. It is quite easy to tame and is generally docile. The Yellow Fox communicates using auditory, olfactory and visual signals. A dominant fox uses vocalizations, staring, and ear flattening to cause another fox to submit.
